Unlock your playing with Jay!

I have unlocked so many doors in my playing ability since learning from Jay.

I have seen significant progress in my limb independence, pedal hat control, heel-toe playing, and odd-timed grooves since I started lessons.

Where else can you get lessons with one of the top people in the industry at an affordable price?

Thank you, Jay!

Amazing teacher

If you are on the fence about lessons with Jay, do it!

Initially, I struggled with limb independence and overall creativity with my drumming.

As someone who was a self-taught drummer, Jay immediately identified some foundational gaps and recommended easy-to-follow lessons that immediately accomplished my initial goals within 2 months!!

Jay’s lessons really kicked me into gear

I’ve been playing on and off for a long time, and I felt confident in my coordination and ability to navigate odd time signatures, but I was ultimately feeling directionless. I would sit down at the kit and just not know what to play.

Jay’s lessons really kicked me into gear! Jay challenged me with some crazy polyrhythms and coordination exercises and gave me a lot of patterns to use in grooves and fills. I feel like my vocabulary, coordination, speed, and overall comfort level on the kit have all dramatically improved.

I really liked the format for remote lessons – They were very clearly explained and followed a logical progression without huge leaps.

This was a fantastic experience, and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to take their drumming to the next level.

I’ll encourage you to explore different niche areas of your playing that will help to develop your true personality as a player and your own unique style. We’ll develop your improvisational skills too, empowering you to become a versatile and well-rounded musician.

Build your professional music career

I understand that your dream may extend beyond honing your drumming skills; you want to make a mark in the music industry. My mentorship program goes the extra mile by providing invaluable guidance on building a sustainable career as a full-time musician.

From grass-roots relationships to networking with industry professionals to marketing yourself effectively and leveraging social media, I’ll equip you with the essential business skills you need to thrive in today’s competitive music landscape.

How does this Mentorship work?

I take up to five drummers under my wing for a year, offering my expert guidance as both a professional drummer and a full-time musician.

Each month you’ll receive:

  • Practice routine review
  • Bespoke lesson plan containing three to four new lessons
  • 1-on-1 Zoom lesson / catch-up call
  • A direct line of support with me throughout the mentorship

During our monthly 1-on-1 catch-up Zoom lessons, we will delve into a wide range of essential progressive drumming concepts and skills, tailored specifically to your goals and aspirations. Each session will be thoughtfully crafted to maximize your progress and ensure that you receive personalized attention.

We’ll cover technique refinement and timing exercises, key rudiments, fills, and grooves, helping you develop your own signature drumming style.

In addition to honing your drumming skills, our 1-on-1 sessions will also focus on your career development as a full-time musician (if this is one of your goals). We’ll discuss strategies for building a solid online presence, leveraging social media to reach a wider audience, and promoting your music effectively. We’ll explore the art of music marketing, creating impactful promotional materials, and engaging with fans.

Each month will bring new challenges, growth, and exciting opportunities to push your drumming skills and career aspirations to new heights.

Why The Mentorship Runs Over 12 Months

It’s a commitment to your growth and my dedication as a teacher.

I understand that a 12-month commitment may initially seem like a significant investment of your time and resources. However, I firmly believe that this extended duration is crucial for providing you with the comprehensive support and transformative growth you deserve.

Here’s why my Mentorship spans 12 months:

Sustainable Progress: Mastery of any craft takes time, practice, and patience. I prioritize your long-term development as a drummer, ensuring that you have ample opportunity to internalize new techniques, refine your skills, and develop a strong foundation. By spreading the mentorship over 12 months, I’m giving you the time to fully realize techniques and concepts, and witness consistent growth.

Building a Relationship: As your mentor, I am committed to your success and growth. By spanning the mentorship over 12 months, we have the opportunity to build a strong teacher-student relationship. I can understand your unique learning style, tailor my approach to your needs, and provide personalized guidance that leads to transformative breakthroughs.

Gradual Career Development: Becoming a professional musician is a multifaceted journey. Throughout the 12-month mentorship, I’ll not only focus on honing your drumming skills but also provide you with guidance on building a successful music career (if this os one of your goals). This gradual approach allows us to delve into essential topics like marketing, networking, and performing, empowering you to navigate the music industry with confidence.

Ongoing Support: My commitment to your growth extends beyond the monthly lessons. By spreading the mentorship over 12 months, I ensure that each month, you have the time to fully digest the lessons I provide. I also offer ongoing support throughout your journey with a line of contact, if you need assistance between lessons. Whether you encounter challenges, have questions, or need guidance, I’m just a DM away and will be there for you every step of the way, providing feedback, motivation, and inspiration.

Remember, my mentorship is not a quick fix or a shortcut. It is a transformative process that requires dedication and commitment from both sides.

I am fully invested in your growth as a drummer and musician, and the 12-month duration allows me to provide you with the highest level of support and guidance. Together, we’ll embark on a journey that goes beyond drumming techniques, shaping you into a well-rounded musician who is ready to make a lasting impact in the music industry.

How much time do I need for this?

You need to commit to a 40-minute practice session, three days a week.

If this is too much for you, or if you’re not used to doing this – we can discuss this issue first and I’ll explain how to make it easy in the very first lesson. We’ll get you set up with an easy-to-follow routine that ensures you’ll enjoy and get the most out of the mentorship – and also guarantees you’ll know exactly how to optimize your practice moving forwards.

What equipment do I need?

You need access to a drum kit – either acoustic or electric and you’ll need a computer or a phone for the 1-on-1 Zoom calls. If you have anything more advanced than this to record video and audio, that’s a bonus.

Accepting students

I don’t accept all students – I maintain an exclusive approach when it comes to accepting students into this Mentorship.

While I understand that it may seem restrictive, this approach is purposeful and allows me to deliver the highest quality mentorship experience. Here’s why I don’t accept all students into the program:

Commitment to Quality: My priority is to deliver exceptional mentorship and maintain the highest standards. By limiting the number of people I work with, I can ensure that each student receives the attention, guidance, and resources necessary for their growth.

Personalized Attention: My mentorship program is designed to provide personalized attention and tailored guidance to each student. By accepting a limited number of students, I can dedicate the necessary time and focus to understanding their individual needs, goals, and aspirations. This personalized approach allows me to create a mentorship plan that addresses their specific challenges, accelerates their progress, and maximizes their potential.

Mentor-Student Compatibility: A strong mentor-student relationship is crucial for a successful mentorship journey. I only work with people who I know I am compatible with, and who I know are ready to make a commitment to transforming their drumming.

Limited Availability: This program has limited availability due to the time and resources required of me personally, to provide a comprehensive and impactful experience. I have limited bandwidth for the level of focus and attention that this mentorship demands, so I have set a maximum limit of five students per year.

Focus on Serious Aspirants: My mentorship program is designed for drummers who are truly committed to their craft. By selectively accepting students, I can focus my efforts on those who demonstrate the dedication, work ethic, and drive required to make the most of the mentorship experience.
